I can't agree with the notion that the Republicans will have a stronger ticket if they can ditch Trump - a better candidate doesn't equal success. If Trump is off the ticket, they lose a lot of his base.

The people who think he's literally chosen by God, the people who laugh and want him to go nuclear for the lulz, the people who believe every word he says is true... they will not forgive or forget the Republicans knifing him in the back. That's the Deep State, the Swamp.
How many people is that? 5% of the GOP presidential voters? 10%? 2%? I don't think we have a realistic picture, to be honest. But whatever it is, it's points they can't get back without him.
If Trump leaves in a way that is not 100% gracious and supportive of a replacement candidate... I think they lose too many votes to win. If he's talking about coups while they're running someone else, I think they're sunk.
