This is not her house, its called the Champ D’Or and it’s allegedly the largest house in Texas, built by Alan and Shirley Goldfield, who only lived in it for two years. It sold in 2017 for an undisclosed amount and at its peak was priced at $72 million.

The more I learn about this house the more it pisses me off. The people who built it lived in it for two years then were like “meh” we’re done with it. So it just sat there for 6 years because so one wanted to pay millions for a tacky ass house.

Last week, I had the chance to debate Emmanuel Saez at the @PIIE. Here is a video of the discussion and a series of tweets explaining my disagreements with Saez and Zucman’s approach; and proposing alternatives to a singular focus on wealth taxation.
Lack of income growth and opportunity for middle class families is a fundamental problem in American society. So too is rising inequality.
The role of monied interests in shaping policy is also a crucial political problem. Wealth taxation is not an effective approach to any of these problems.

The Social Democratic Party (#SPD) has put forward a proposal for re-introducing the #wealth tax in Germany. In this Thread I’ll discuss the economic pros and cons of the proposal. My conclusion is that if done right, the wealth tax could be good for the economy. @bmf @bmas
The proposal is not yet very specific yet, but we know a few things. The wealth tax will apply to wealth larger than a certain minimum wealth level. The tax will probably be around 1% p.a. and perhaps go up to 2% for large fortunes.
I begin with two arguments in favor of the wealth tax that are often made. These 2 arguments are reasonable, but probably not convincing enough to make a convincing case for a wealth tax in Germany.

The budgets presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley so far have been marked by one stark trend — taxing the rich to give out to the middle class
Jaitley's first budget presented in July 2014 was a balm for the middle class. He gave respite to the common taxpayer battered by high inflation during the previous UPA government by raising the the minimum basic tax exemption limit from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.
The limit for senior citizens was increased from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. In a relief for small investors, the limit on investments under Section 80C was increased from Rs.1 lakh per individual per annum to Rs.1.5 lakh.
