It's like there is a blackhole in people's thoughts at times. Remember:

"Lawyers and law firms have given more money to House and Senate candidates and party committees than any other industry, with an overwhelming majority going to Democrats."

The DOJ is staffed with lawyers. That's pretty much its purpose.

People continue to be surprised when it comes to Politics intersecting legal matters like indictments and going to trial that the Dems tend to have more favorable representation than the GOP.
I have no idea why this should surprise anyone still. Lawyers tend to be Democrats. They tend to graduate from leftist law schools. Even the "GOP lawyers" tend to lean left in their views on many issues besides taxes. Hell, many GOP appointed supreme Court Justices turn liberal.
It's should be no surprise that the left would therefore make politics into some type of thunderdome court battle instead of you know an election campaign. They do this during every GOP admin.

To think they won't would be like thinking a football player will play baseball.
The law will be applied unequally between the political parties not because one party is more criminal but because the other party has more lawyers.

No one is above the law, they say, but lawyers and friends of lawyers appear to be.
I'm not saying it's right for this to happen. I'm saying it's bound to happen for the simple reason that they have more lawyers.

It's not a coincidence that the resistance decided to use lawfare to battle Trump. It playing to their strengths.
However, this strength also has blindspots. As I've said countless times you don't bring a lawyer to a political fight. I say this for a reason. The two professions, while they overlap, require two different skill sets.
The main problem is that people in the heartland still see the law as different than Politics while those in DC see it as different sides of the same coin.

The "law" has a different meaning in DC as it does in the heartland.
We should keep this front and center as the IG report and Dunham investigations continue.

There will be a Political aspect of these events outside of the legal aspect. The Dems will get destroyed on the Political aspect. They will engage on the legal front.
I think there will be many indictments and court battles but these are not and can not be the only measure of success for you. The Political battle is just as important if not more so.

This was easily seen in the Impeachment inquiry. The President won the political battle.
The legal battle is still being fought. Will they vote to Impeach? Does the whistleblower law section 2 subsection B allow him to be named...🙄🙄..is not releasing tax returns obstruction?🙄🙄 Etc. The two are not the same.
Nervous Nancy needed to win the Political battle to lower the Political cost to her moderates in order to impeach without risking the house majority. Her and shifty Schiff didn't accomplish that. She may win some of the legal battles but until the price is lowered she doesn't win
The same mechanic is at work with the IG report and Dunham. If Trump can win the Political battle it doesn't really matter if he wins every legal battle. Winning the legal battles will of course help win the political battle but it doesn't automatically mean he does or doesn't.
It just is what it is. Trump had a great victory this week as the Dems failed on Political front with Impeachment even if they ultimately vote to impeach Trump has already won politically. If the GOP holds together and the Dems vote on partisan lines it's a bigger victory.
The IG report is shaping up to be the same type of battle. The NYT/ other fake media are prepping the "legal" battlefront while Trump is prepping the political battlefield. The NYT is arguing about low level FBI lawyer not top leaders, adding to an email really not that bad, etc
Trump is calling it an attempted coup. Barr is calling the resistance seditious bastards. Once you see the difference of the two fields, it becomes a lot more interesting to watch and you aren't as worried about "nothing happening/are we there yet?" concerns.
