Life, the Universe and Everything, aka 42 graphs of the devastating impact of a Tory decade in power...

1. The Tories have cut over 20,000 police in England and Wales (talk of hiring 20,000 more would still leave us almost 1,000 short of the 2010 figure.)

2. Knife crime has risen steadily since a low in 2013, and is 42% higher than it was back in 2010.

3. Wages after inflation are still not back to pre-recession levels. In other words, the Tories have presided over a decade of stagnation. Here's the very latest ONS data from November 2019...

4. Total spending per pupil fell approx. 8% in real terms between 2009-10 and 2017-18. (The government has been accused of misrepresenting the data in the IFS report, which fact checkers found to be correct.)

5. Waiting lists for hospital admissions have got longer and longer under the Tories. A record number of people are now waiting for hospital treatment.

6. At the same time, patients face much longer waiting times in A&E.

7. The 62-day waiting time target for cancer treatment hasn't been met since 2013. I'm sure everyone must know somebody who's been affected by this.

8. After inflation, local authority spending has fallen on everything except children's social care. Overall, it's fallen 30% per person in real terms due to government cuts.

9. Planning changes have allowed authorities to eat into the Green Belt. In total, 13,200 hectares of Green Belt land has been lost since 2010. That's nearly 51 square miles! (You could argue we needed to do so to build more houses. But it's still a lot.)

10. Child poverty and infant mortality are on the rise in England.
bmjopen.bmj.com/content/9/10/e…
11. After declining following the financial crash, personal insolvencies have soared again since the Brexit vote.

12. Racial and religious hate crime is up sharply in England and Wales. Note the spike immediately after the referendum, which caused a step change in the volume of crimes. And it's now on the rise again.

13. House building has barely regained pre-financial crash long term trend after a decade of fewer houses being built. These are actual figures, i.e. they don't take into account population growth. No wonder house prices have risen a lot over recent years!
