Some of the newest versions warm more due to high climate sensitivity
Paleoclimate evidence and observations can be used to test the models. These suggest some model configurations warm too much - e.g. those that assume aerosols cool strongly at present and with high climate sensitivity.
Accounting for these other factors in a simple model puts the new models in context with other lines of evidence. Suggest some configurations are improbable but can't rule them out at the 1% level. Best way to avoid risk is mitigate now!
