Thank you to all @BhamLawStudents @bhamlaw @artsatbham colleagues who came along to our launch of the #LawTalkBLS Legal Comms exhibition of student work 2019/20. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Here’s some pictures from the event and, most importantly, the student POWs 1/x
The #LawTalkBLS module allows @BhamLawStudents to choose an area of law they want to research, develop a message from that research to communicate to an audience of their choice and then produce a ‘piece of work’ (POW) in a format to allow best communication of the same 2/x
Work exhibited this year includes interpretative dance, slam poem, blog, Legal Design, infographic, video, case note, street law presentation & research memorandum. Actual POW’s & student reflections on the same #LegalEd #CreativePedagogies #AuthenticAssessment 3/x
Exhibition contains student POWs as ‘exemplars’ PLUS the tutor feedback & reflective account that explains the ‘process’ (design choices, use of feedback, development of research skills) behind the POW. An invaluable source for this year’s cohort to utilise #feedbackliteracy 4/x
The choices of POW that go into the exhibition + overall design/curation are made by the ‘Law Talkers’, our 3rd year peer mentors. They helped to produce the video reflections & feedback that can be accessed using the QR codes at the bottom of each exhibit 5/x
18 AMAZING @bhamlaw UG finalists volunteered to be Law Talkers this year. They’ve given up so much time to give peer feedback to 2nd year #LawTalkBLS @BhamLawStudents through the module. Plus created resources for our VLE too #studentsaspartners #collaboration #peerfeedback 6/x
And a big thank you to all of the @bhamlaw #LawTalkBLS 2018/19 student’s who allowed their POW’s to be exhibited. Many are on gap years abroad right now but still recorded videos & feedback for this years cohort #LawIsNotTheHungerGames 7/x
This is a slam poem/spoken word’ POW from Rochelle Jack @RochelleeJackk ‘Fail me once, Fool me twice’ in relation to police failings in the Stephen Lawrence case. Powerful, raw, mesmerising and amazing student work 8/x
This is an interpretative dance from Davina Patel on the impact of access to justice cuts in E+W. Evocative and innovative student work #Law #Dance 9/x
This is a Street Law Presentation POW on ‘Freedom of Expression’ for school children by Abbie Bauckham @BauckhamAbbie. Really important #PLE aspects being explored in a meaningful way by this work #PublicLegalEducation #StreetLaw #AuthenticAssessment 10/x
This is the POW from Lauren Peach @BrumLawLauren which is a blog on the law on divorce needs to be reformed. For law students by law students. And so relevant given what’s happened to the new Divorce Bill in the current political & legal climate #digitalskills #lawblogging 11/x
This video POW from Jay Carter, on whether the law on adverse possession is ‘fair’, is a brilliant example of communicating law using simple (pen, paper, own hand & smart phone) techniques beyond just written formats #Law #Video 12/x
This Infographic POW on consent in relation to sexual offences by Daren Kim is bold in design, full of research/relevant info but designed so still memorable & accessible 13/x #Infographic
One of the new POW options last year, Cameron Kang’s Legal Research Memorandum demonstrates how to communicate law in a professional writing context #employability #AuthenticAssessment 14/x
And last, but not least, this case note POW from Phoebe Bradshaw is a great example of how to communicate law in a more academic, but still concise and analytical, writing style #Law #Skills #LegalEd 15/x
Want to know more about the #CurriuculumDesign #Assessment and #LegalEd #Pedagogy that underpins the #LawTalkBLS Legal Comms module at @bhamlaw? Come see my paper at the upcoming ‘Futures of Legal Ed’ conference with @eEmmaJonesLaw in Jan 2020 eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-futures-… 16/x
And thanks to a grant from @bileta I’ll be launching a new website early next year to host a digitisation of #LawTalkBLS student POW exhibits plus showcasing more of our wonderful @BhamLawStudents work. And blogs & posts about my research/work on #LegalEd @bhamlaw 17/END
