SCOOP: WNYC/Gothamist has obtained a previously unknown, recently-created list from the @ManhattanDA. It names 61 NYPD officers whose truthfulness has been challenged by judges:

/ This makes @ManhattanDA the 4th DA to release officer dishonesty records directly from its internal database. In April, WNYC/Gothamist confirmed that all 5 borough DAs were quietly building these police lists:

/ Since then, WNYC/Gothamist has worked with @gideonoliver on FOIL appeals and forced the disclosure of similar (partial) lists from the Queens, Brooklyn, and Bronx DAs:

/The Manhattan list includes some officer names we have previously reported on. Manhattan officer Jonathan Cannizzaro, for example, was called out in April for allegedly lying about a marijuana seizure. Here’s how he responded to that judge’s finding:

/ The @NYCPBA attacked DA Vance for the release, saying it signals that prosecutors are effectively willing to wave a white flag in the war on crime:
/ @MollyGriffard and other @LegalAidNYC attorneys are now reviewing past cases against these officers names. They want to know if they agreed to plea deals without being told about these officers’ potential officer problems.
/ The DA withheld many records, including police internal affairs investigations into officers. They are citing 50-a, a law that shields such records. Democratic state senators like @jamaaltbailey and @jessicaramos are currently fighting to get 50-a repealed.
