There is nothing wrong with you if you love and are invested in something that was created by someone who questions your humanity. Knowing that about them may change how you view that work in the future, but the error was never yours.
There is nothing wrong with you if you choose to divorce that something from its original creator and continue to love it on your own terms. The idea that anyone could own a world is a recent construction, demanded by capitalism. It's not innate.
I uncritically love several books by a man who thinks that Roma parents, like my father, break their children's knees to make us better beggars. I won't read any more of his work, but I didn't know at the time. He doesn't get to break my heart AND take my universes away.
The best way to say "fuck you" to someone who thinks I'm less than human is to love what I already love and be bold in my criticism. It's not a contradiction. It's humanity.
(Now, if you need to throw away everything someone who thinks like that has ever tainted to feel safe, there's nothing wrong with that, either. You curate your own garden. Just...if you want to keep it, if that's your emotional support owl, you're not making a mistake.)
Also, remember that secondhand bookstores and eBay exist. If you want to buy merchandise relating to a specific franchise without benefiting the author directly, you can. Buy used, buy from small fan creators, avoid tie-in theme parks.
If buying used clothing off of eBay caused new clothing to exist and benefit the franchise holders, I wouldn't be protecting my last STARS sweatshirt like it was made of woven platinum.
