1/ An obligatory decade in review thread:

This was a decade of great personal and professional transformation. I did a bit of growing up and learnt some very valuable lessons.
2/ In this decade I went from being an author of children’s books to a game designer to running a company to becoming a product manager and an angel investor. I worked mostly across consumer tech (and a little bit of SaaS) in gaming, messaging, healthcare, education and media.
2.1/ E-com, fin-tech and mobility are left in the Indian consumer tech ecosystem ;)

Still super gung-ho about the India story and deeply committed to it.
3/ I got married and became a dad. Parenting is the single hardest thing I have ever done and I've learnt more about myself in the last 4 years than in the 33 years preceding it.

I wrote a deeply personal post on my first few days as a father: linkedin.com/pulse/fatherho…
3.1/ Monday mornings, whining colleagues, long meetings, businesses not doing well, bad bosses, the pressures of building products and running teams - all seem so much easier when compared to a kid’s tantrum-led meltdown. (Terrible twos last way longer than you’d expect.)
3.2/ Key & Peele’s comedy provided sanity in the early days of being a parent - a thank you note to these two geniuses - @JordanPeele and @KeeganMKey is long overdue

4/ Favorites this decade:
Fiction book: The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu
Non-fiction book: Thinking in Bets by Annie Duke
Game: Clash of Clans
TV Show: Peppa Pig (uggh) and Breaking Bad
Movie: Whiplash
Holiday: Baby-moon in Italy
5/ Reacquainted: Picked up coding again after 12 years - Python is great

Also wrote a few short stories here and there but storytelling is definitely something I'd like to get back to more seriously in the next decade.

Contributed to this in 2018:

5.1/ Started: learning Mandarin and making myself more aware of China. It’s a relationship I’m looking to nurture over the next few decades. I wrote about my first trip here:
5.2/ Started: playing poker more regularly. I talk about it here:

thehardcopy.co/what-worked-fo…
5.3/ Still perfecting: a spec doc/ product requirement doc which makes all stakeholders happy - this will remain a work in progress forever!

Mastered: changing a diaper on a plane
6/ Truly learnt the importance of teaching and its place in completing the learning cycle.

Read/ Build/ Do —> Gather Insights —> Share/ Teach —> Solidify the lessons —> Read/ Build/ Do

I’ve been teaching regularly since the age of 15/16 and expect to get deeper into it soon.
7/ Built a thesis around the “Wisdom Economy” as opposed to the “Knowledge Economy”. Spoke about it at my alma mater IIT Madras:

8/ Condensed down my lessons on crafting experiences for others here:

9/ All in all, couldn't have hoped for a better 10 year period. Here's to the next ten! Upwards and onwards, everyone. Happy new year.
