These memes - that the fires were started by environmentalists - are circulating right through certain pockets of Australian Facebook at the moment

This is a good example of the sorts of alt-right stories blaming environmentalists for the fires circulating on Facebook currently. The Unshackled do a brisk trade in such memes

Of course, good old Marijke Rancie is on the act too. Bonus points for defending Morrison from the hypocrites and the Warmers
One small thing you can do on Facebook when confronted with weaponised disinformation like this is to report it to Facebook
Another reason for the rapid spread of the "Greens caused the bushfires" meme is that conservative politicians are actively pushing it. Here's a FB post from 23rd December by Victorian Liberal MP Bev McArthur, once again blaming the Greens for stopping hazard reduction
And ... this is what happens, just a few days later. The PM pushes many of these same talking points, slightly cleaned up, as formal government policy. theaustralian.com.au/nation/politic…
