Ben Rhodes' reaction to this ("a lie, offensive, obscene") is very telling. Were it actually a lie, he would have demonstrated it. Instead, he tries to make it "shocking"/illegitimate to say. He will have media surrogates to echo him.

But Pompeo spoke the plain truth.
Here, for example, is the well-known Trumpian outlet, the New York Times:

The New York Times again lies for Pompeo … four years in advance

To say #Obama pursued a pro-#Iran/#Russia policy in the Middle East is not actually controversial. Tried to keep Maliki, abetted the militias, helped to rescue Asad (false promises of support to the opposition, letting Iran ship in Shia jihadists, attacking insurgents), etc.
Two "controversies" in three days with Pence's comments on Iran and Al-Qaeda/9-11 and Pompeo's statement today about Obama siding with Iran in the region. And by "controversy", I mean the Trump administration saying something demonstrably true that the press corps doesn’t like.

The reports that #IRGC Quds commander Qassem Sulaymani and his Iraqi deputy, Jamal al-Ibrahimi (Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis), have been killed by a drone strike [apparently American] in Baghdad are now coming from Iraqi politicians close to #Iran/#Hashd and #Hizballah outlets, FWIW.
The #US should have killed Quds Force commander Qassem Sulaymani and the other senior members of the #IRGC network in Iraq, Abu Mahdi chief among them, many years ago. What's odd is "why-now?", if this has happened. Where they aiming for a Hashd guy and got lucky?
By "odd", what I mean is - despite the clear rhetorical and tit-for-tat escalations on the Gulf and at the Iraqi bases - the #US is in no way positioned to absorb what #Iran will throw at them if they have killed Qassem Sulaymani.

Senior @StateDept official - without a hint of self-awareness: "There have been... 11 attacks" in two months against bases with coalition forces "so it’s very important that we not tolerate [this] ... if we don’t respond, it will invite further aggression" state.gov/senior-state-d…
At some level, "We have acted firmly against #Iran now - you may all cheer at will - in order to prevent further aggression because they were emboldened to further and further aggression by our years of cowardice and incompetence", must strike even the #Trump people as a bit off.
The administration has, for once, done the right thing: it not only destroyed #Iranian imperial infrastructure but shed blood. The people blaming #Trump for surfacing the not-so-hidden tensions in a policy he continued from #Obama are either delusional or dishonest.

The Pahlavi dynasty in #Iran, and Muhammad Reza (the last #Shah) in particular, brought #Jews into the life of the country in a way that had not been known before (a prominent example is Habib Elghanian). This was part of what antagonised the #Islamists that seized power in 1979.

1. The Prime Minister’s Brexit proposals are worse than Theresa May’s. He has abandoned the all-party commitment to an open border in Northern Ireland by announcing that customs checks will be required.
2. And by giving the Northern Ireland Assembly a veto over the new arrangements, he is undermining the very idea of an insurance policy that all parties can rely on. It can’t be an insurance policy if one side can pull the plug on it.
3. And how will it help peace and stability in Northern Ireland if every 4 years there is a divisive debate about whether to follow UK or EU rules ?

Bernie's polling is decent, but that he does the 2nd-best against Trump (after Biden) is partly an artifact of name recognition. For instance, Buttigieg polls worse than Bernie vs. Trump. But Buttigieg actually has better favorables than Bernie among voters who know who he is.
It's certainly a messy relationship. Some liberals, including Bernie, have decent (though not great) polling. Some moderates don't. But favorability ratings, which allow voters to say they don't recognize a candidate, are a better way to assess this stuff than head-to-head polls.

You have to adjust for name recognition, though. Biden, at just south of 30 percent, is still something like a 2:1 underdog. And Bernie's position at 20 percent, as I wrote yesterday, is tenable but not great.
Per the chart above, Buttigieg's position is roughly as good as Bernie's on a "polls only" basis, or maybe a bit better. Empirically, you'd slightly prefer to be polling at ~10% with low name recognition than ~20% with high name recognition.

A few highbrow beers (although there's nothing *truly* highbrow on here) creep over into wineland, but that's sort of what you'd expect.
