It is my sincere hope that Zim's exclusion from the UK-Africa Investment summit this week will lead to serious and honest soul-searching among all concerned, to better understand not only why we are not there, but what needs to be done in Zim as a matter of absolute urgency.
There are some basic and quite simple things that Government needs to do internally if they wish to attract external, sustainable investment. If Government is no longer serious about what they themselves announced, that's fine, but if they are, what needs to be done is clear.
Most crucial is policy coherence. Systems thinking is key. Government has to drop the silo thinking in which policies are being followed independently of each other. They call it "joined-up government" in some countries. This is urgently needed in Zim. Everything is connected.
