Equaling or beating the 2018 sales volume was always going to be unlikely, because of the following additional 5 factors.
- M3 accounted for ~38.7% of all EV sales in 2018
- InsideEVs’ 2019 estimates = 48.2% of all US EV sales
- Increase of only 19,143 units/5.8% of all EV sales
- But 31% decline among the other top 10 selling EVs available in 2018 + 2019
- Top 10-selling EVs in 2018 down 32,000/-10.4% in 2019
- M3 had increase in sales (+19,143)
- Other 9 of top 10 EVs from 2018 saw an average decline of 5,673/-19.5% in 2019
- Top 10 2018 EVs accounted for 83% of sales in 2019
- 27 of 43 EVs available in 2018 & 2019 saw a sales decrease for a total of -70,841
- Only 16 saw an increase in sales, for a total of +29,675
- If you exclude Model 3, sales only increased 10,532 units from the other 15 EVs w/ YOY growth
- 8 new EVs in the US in 2019
