I was excited by the NYT endorsement. I read it aloud to The Wife & texted a family, friends, colleagues. I re-watched all the interviews, watching the faces of the women & POC. I wrote my column about what it meant to address the other--this was a sea-change. It felt tectonic.
A close friend--a black woman I talk to every week--replied "What a triumph for two women to be endorsed by the NYT.When you wrote, I had not read it, but since, I have. Just goes to show that having female/ LGBT/ POC representation on boards and committees goes such a LONG way."
All day, every time I came on here, Bernie and Biden camps were flaming about the endorsement. It was so disheartening to see Dem "strategists," some of whom I really respect, dismissing the truly hard work of these women and POC breaking ground. I wanted folks to acknowledge it.
When two groups who have been excluded historically from having their voices heard get to make decisions historically made only by white men and they choose women, in a long, discursive process, that seems something we should acknowledge as critically important. That's all.
