Msg from a pal who's an expert in oil & gas just now:

"The companies causing all the damage in BC [fracking] are almost all from Alberta or foreign. The reason to dump AB teacher's pensions into #CoastalGaslink can be summed up in 4 ways: #TMX, #KXL, Line 3 & condensate....
"... #CoastalGasLink is basically a waste product dump, to get rid of natural gas since flaring is not allowed here anymore, or else why would a BC project be so worth it to Alberta that teacher's pensions would be confiscated and put at risk?" #bcpoli #ableg #abpoli #Wetsuweten
(Condensate is a byproduct of BC fracking.) "KXL (Keystone pipeline) needs condensate to dilute bitumen. AB is short of condensate. Condensate produced in BC also produces large volumes of natural gas as a byproduct, & must be removed without flaring it off like they do in Texas"
"Not sure what the fracking companies are doing with all the unwanted gases in BC, likely burning off these gases when they come up with fracking fluid at first, but not sure...out of site, out of mind maybe..." #bcpoli #WetsuwetenStrong #wetsuweten #CoastalGasLink
"#CGL line to Kitimat for making LNG for export is a convenient way to get rid of natural gas. Gas-only producers in AB are all almost broke or gone; there's no AB market for it. Shell's big reason for selling all their S. AB gas fields to Pieridae? There's no condensate in them"
"The additional 860,000 or so bbls/day of bitumen to supply #TMX will also need condensate, so BC is likely the best location to get it from. The Montney formation is rich in condensate, running from Grande Prairie up through NE BC [Peace R. Valley, near #SiteC, other dams]"
"The other geological formation for mining condensate is the Duvernay, from just north of YYC to Grande Prairie, and it also is producing condensate and nat gas they don't know what to do with. AB is also importing condensate from the US via the Cochin pipeline." #TMX
IN SHORT: Alberta runs huge BC fracking ops to supply condensate it needs to dilute its tar sands bitumen. #SiteC greenwashes that fracking/LNG production (& ironically is then threatened by fracking quakes). #Fracking, #LNG, #SiteC & #TMX are linked as one. #bcpoli #Wetsuweten
We know LNG is not profitable for BC on the global market now. The claim that LNG will replace coal in Asia for BC's carbon credit has been debunked now by Bloomberg's latest report. Seems that was a marketing way to get the public on side with exporting gas into a glut market.
Final question: BC's largest contribution to climate change, by far, is its intensive fracking. It fills an area the size of many European countries. Fracking & #SiteC are inextricably linked. Where is your fave enviro group - pick one - on these linked issues? Push them. #bcpoli
