I hope it’s not true that the Washington Post suspended a reporter for linking to a completely accurate story about Kobe’s sexual assault case today.
I haven’t seen it reported except by unreliable outlets run by gleeful misogynists. It’d be an outrage if it’s true.
We don’t all have to agree on how to react. Many people feel a protective instinct for the family, and I sympathize. But others want to spare a thought while Kobe is canonized for the young woman who suffered and was silenced, and that’s valid too.
It shouldn’t be for our employers to pick winners and enforce conformity in this situation. Especially not to suppress the whole truth. We can and should just speak freely. And disagree. And hopefully forgive each other if our words offend.
