This is a deep dive by @KevinGHall and myself looking into the past of Steven S. Biss, the VA attorney Nunes is using for five high-profile lawsuits against @Twitter @DevinCow @NunesAlt @LizMair @mcclatchy (disclosure: my employer) @CNN @RyanLizza @Hearst and others.
After reviewing hundreds of pages of court documents, we found Biss has a history of being accused of using the courts to harass, intimidate and overwhelm his opponents. sacbee.com/news/californi…
Lawyer David Feingold decided to sue Biss in 2006. In a sworn affidavit, he said in a phone call he: “inquired as to what Biss could possibly sue about and Biss replied indicating that he was very creative and he would make something up if necessary.”

Biss was accused of inflating his number of clients in another case. A judge said to him: “You file a suit on behalf of somebody you never talked to? I mean that’s astounding. That’s astounding. I mean, I’ve never heard of that happening in my life.”

The Virginia State Bar has previously suspended Biss from practicing law for a full year, because he “committed a deliberately wrongful act that reflects adversely on his fitness to practice law.”

And it’s not just on behalf of others – Biss has used the court system in personal matters. He’s filed multiple appeals and a lawsuit in response to an eviction notice. A judge has ruled he now owes more in legal fees than back rent.
