So going to be on the way home for a while, so a few thoughts now we have officially left the E.U. (but brexit is far from done) on what the remain movement must do now.

1/
It’s obviously a very sad day, brexit has happened, we have lost our voice on the international stage and so many of us fear for the harm that will be caused to our country & the people in it, but there is a lot to fight for and things that we can be positive about.

2/
Firstly, we must keep our networks and activism alive. Whilst some were so many of us were not active before 2016 and the U.K. now has the biggest pro European movement in Europe. It’s vital that these non partisan networks are maintained. It’s vital we remember that what.. 3/
...Brought us together are values about what this country should be and there are so many causes we can align on. Below will set out some things we can all do, to hopefully lead to more bright days in the future.

4/
The first thing we need to do is ensure we do not let this govt pretend they have #GotBrexitDone. There are many choices ahead. We must #HoldThemToAccount and #MakeThemOwnIt but also try and shape the relationship over the next 11 months. These work in parallel and...
5/
.. for those wishing to fight to rejoin, are necessary before any such movement is made. We must make it clear that, even if media move on, that any decisions on the shape of brexit are now down to the govt. The WA does not preclude alignment or a “Norway” type deal and we

/6
...should argue for that as the least damaging option. And if the govt chooses to to have no alignment (against advice from most experts), then any consequences are on them & we must make that clear to the public less engaged than us.

/7
At the same time, we should all find a cause that matters that we can out our energy into. For me personally I think electoral system can be blamed for leaving so many feeling disillusioned and brexit (even if people do not know it) & getting involved with @electoralreform

/8
Personally will also be getting involved with a local project to improve the village playground and doing my bit to fundraise for groups like @crisis_uk and @TrussellTrust. But others may have other progressive causes so do find which suits you best.

/9
Others will also want to do more in party politics and that’s great. We need that on the ground but would hope we all learn from #GE2019 and we do not be too tribal. Progressive parties must work together and recognise each other’s strengths and work together where needed

/10
So guess what I am saying is, remain may be over but the battle to fight for country soul is properly on and if we are going to fight back, the ground work must take place now.

Take advice like this, & we can fight for Better & more positive future. /END

Ps, now sat in a train carriage in Paddington with some 70 year olds wearing happy brexit day badges that have obviously been in parliament square. Taking a lot to not say something but now is not the time, they are not the hardcore right wing types, will give them their moment.
Pps. Some drunk girls (late 20s) just got on and started chatting to the above people. One talks about how Brussels did a lovely goodbye with the Union Jacks and another highlighted that “it’s not really goodbye, that’s 31st Dec, we have loads of trade stuff to do first.” 😉
