The NYC mayor is out spreading debunked lies peddled by his Trump supporting police chief. Just last week he took credit for drop in murders. Rapes & violent assaults down too. But selectively cherry-picks a few claimed upticks to blame on bail reform. The cynicism is staggering. 
Bipartisan @verainstitute came out with a scathing report slamming the tactics used by NYPD Chief that the Mayor is choosing to back up for its inaccuracy & fearmongering: “His selective use of shortrun statistics doesn’t support this statement.” @NYCMayor?
Yesterday, even the @NYDailyNews Editorial Board slammed the lies: “NYPD Chief Dermot Shea is wrong to blame the crime spike on a change in the state’s bail law that took effect Jan. 1. Such cause-and-effect assertions should not be made lightly.” nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-edi…
The NYC mayor’s decision to align himself with @GOP Trump supporting politicians, fearmongering police & prosecutors, & folks like Sean Hannity, all who hate truth & also him, to peddle debunked lies & fear instead of *embracing* exceptionally modest bail reform boggles the mind.
Why not underscore NYC as one of the safest cities in the world? Why not tout that NYC major felony crime rates dropped 82% while incarceration dropped by 74% in NYC over last 3 decades? Why not hail the thousands now w/ their families instead of Rikers hell? Why fear, @NYCMayor?
