In March 2019, it was revealed that INEOS wrote to the Government in October 2018 demanding the deferral of compliance with several EU environmental regulations because it claimed it would be too costly to meet them...

Now that we've left the EU, ministers will be able to say "pollute to your heart's content. We want you to make a hefty profit!"

(Worth noting that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of INEOS, is the UK's 3rd richest man, worth a mere £18.2 billion. But he couldn't find £100 million!)

If the UK lowers its food standards to accommodate the USA, it's no good saying "well, I'll just buy British, then" because there will be nothing to stop domestic producers following suit. Indeed, they'll probably have to in order to try and keep up with a flood of cheap imports.
And it's not just chickens. There are a swathe of problems, from chickens to beef to GM crops to overuse of pesticides (and use of ones the EU banned) to chlorine washing of salads and other food items.
But the joyous cherry on the cake is that the US is also pushing to remove or reduce information about food origin on packaging (they're not stupid - they know if it says "Made in USA" on it, many people won't touch it). If they succeed, we'll have no idea where stuff comes from.

My hunch - and it's no more than that - is glove puppet Boris Johnson and his operator Dominic Cummings have decided there is no Brexit scenario that ends well. So they are gunning for the worst, most damaging situation possible, while shouting at every turn it's the EU's fault.
In other words, they've concluded their target audience will be more likely to believe their lies if the perceived slight is huge rather than small. If the EU allegedly wrecks our economy, that's an easier sell to the mouth-foamers who hang on His Charlatanness' every word.
That would certainly fit with things like this...

In 2019, 6.1 million people signed a petition to revoke Article 50 & remain in the EU.

It's the largest parliamentary petition in UK history.

A Lib Dem govt would recognise this by revoking Article 50 & retaining our EU membership - allowing us to finally move on from Brexit.
Lib Dems support the right of Gibraltarians to remain in the EU, and will allow EU nationals who have lived in the UK for 5 years or more to stand for office and vote in UK elections and referendums.

A longstanding argument in government concerns how to help industry bear the cost of measures to decarbonise our energy system. By my estimate, the entire manufacturing sector energy bill is not much above £15bn. Their share out of cost of environmental levies? £2bn at most.
Some post Brexit fantasists think an escape from EU environmental regulations could spark a manufacturing renaissance powered by newly-cheap energy. Um, no. £2bn on £400bn of sales? And screw the whole green energy industry?
