I hope now after the latest show down in Delhi "warriors" over here will realise the value of a robust law and order machinery in India. Modi 2.0 should do this 1. Get UCC 2. Fix law and order. IMO the economy will bounce back over a period of time.
And anyone who thinks they're safe because of Bajrang Dal in urban centers well you need to seriously some soul searching. Don't tell me to work on the ground, I literally work in slums of Mumbai regularly even today. And yeah they're safe because of the cops.
The only thing that maintains a semblance of order in this semi chaotic society like ours is this semi functioning law and order machinery. If we improve it we can fix this problem of rioting. I've seen the value of cops in slums for the last few years regularly.
When a drunken male beats his wife up at the slum I've seen the cops literally pick that man up and keep him in the station many times. These cops are so constrained in resources it is a miracle how they work in the slum areas. We need more cops.
The value of non state actors only exist when the state fails. And that is why we have the Bajrang Dal' of this world still staying remotely relevant today in pockets. But don't live in this illusion that you're safe because of the Bajrang Dal, you're safe because of the police.
Remove this state machinery and see how chaos ensues in this society. And this has been the study in most countries which are growing economies. For reference read the book Savage order which studies this subject academically. Don't overestimate goon squads like Bajrang Dal.
Run a simple simulation in your brain. Remove the cops from Delhi in yesterday's scenario & imagine what happens. It is only the cops that ensure sanity prevails in the end. It is only the cops that stand between civilised democracy and barbaric Islamism. So don't fool yourself.
If you're that much of a Bajrang Dal fan go a step further. Next time in trouble don't call the cops, call the Bajrang Dal, see how it works out. Mark my words, what we're facing are typical developing world problems. We will fix them over the years if we push our politicians.
