What’s happening in #Idlib is a result of 9 yrs of failure by the most powerful gov’ts in the world to take any meaningful action to protect civilians & stop Assad & Russian bombs forcing families to flee their homes. 1/

Of course Turkey should open its border to provide safety to 3.5 million people facing daily bombardment with nowhere left to flee. And of course Europe and the rest of the world should help provide asylum to those forced from their homes 2/
Gov’ts must act to save the lives of the ppl of Idlib any way necessary--not because they've been scared into doing so but because it is their moral duty and legal obligation. The int'l community must urgently deliver a credible plan for protecting civilians in #Idlib. 3/3

The little city was once a living monument for the spirit of the revolution. Its people liberated their town from the regime, ISIS, & al Qaeda. They covered its walls with distinctive graffiti and held local elections & public debates for the 1st time in the country in 50 yrs 2/
The story of Saraqeb is the story of Syria: an inspiring example of resistance and public spirit utterly failed by the world.

Some reasons why the Assad regime, supported by Russia is now focusing on western rural Aleppo and why this could be its downfall

Why did the Assad occupation choose to target the land of Aleppo?
Since the fighting began in mid-2019, in the northern Hama countryside and in the southern Idlib countryside, the regime's military has deliberately chosen areas that have less fortified and level ground, so they can use the so-called scorched earth policy.
Then the Russian occupation and the Assad militia managed to storm areas controlled by the Rebels.

This tactic allowed The Russian/Assad militias to conquer several areas from the hands of the Rebels after being forced to withdraw.

Preparations appear to be underway for a pro-#Assad offensive on #Idlib.

12hrs of on/off air & artillery strikes vs. southeastern & western #Idlib & northern #Hama - see marks on map (original by @ETANA_Syria + my additions).

+ multiple large pro-regime convoys moving north.
@ETANA_Syria #pt: If/when any major military campaign gets underway, expect the #Assad regime (+ #Russia & #Iran-backed militias) to focus on these 2 fronts:

1) West #Idlib (Jisr al-Shughour)
2) N. #Hama/#SE #Idlib (Latamineh, Khan Sheikhoun, Kafrazita)

-> a gradual push ‘inland’ & north.
