On my first reading of the Mueller report, what struck me as the single most damaging part was the section on the Trump campaign's attempts to obtain HRC’s emails.
Keep in mind Ledeen’s email was only known to authorities after the FBI tasked Stefan Halper to find out if the Trump campaign planned on releasing HRC's emails with help from the Russian government.
So it appears that Ledeen’s email confirms that the Crossfire Hurricane team was correct in their supposition that the Trump campaign was attempting to acquire HRC’s emails for the purpose of pulling an October Surprise,
...and they were willing to work with a foreign intelligence agency to make it happen.
Not a good look.
Or does it?
Let’s take a closer look.
On Oct 22, 2015, the Ledeens hosted a luncheon for the Ted Cruz for President campaign.

Ledeen’s email to Smith was sent less than two months later, on 12/3/15.
On Feb 28, 2016, Ted Cruz announced his Jewish Leadership team that included Michael and Barbara Ledeen.

On March 11, 2016, a coalition of conservative leaders wrote an open letter to their fellow conservatives urging support for Ted Cruz and opposition to Donald Trump.

In mid-March 2016, Micheal Ledeen was named as a member of Ted Cruz’s foreign policy team.

So when Barbara Ledeen sent Smith the email about the plan to acquire HRC’s email, not only was she not part of the Trump campaign, she was actively trying to DEFEAT Trump.
So why even include the failed search in the Mueller report?
🔷 to cast the Trump campaign in the worst light possible
🔷 to justify the FBI’s hunt for the October Surprise
