New from me: The Washington Examiner's top editor has directed staff in recent months to refrain from writing negative stories about Fox News.

The site even deleted a story (without explanation) where @megynkelly recounted harassment at the network.

People I spoke with said they believed WaEx Editor-In-Chief Hugo Gurdon handed down the order because he was afraid negative Fox stories would lead to the network blacklisting staffers.

Neither Gurdon nor a WaEx spox responded to requests for comment.

The directive illustrates the influence Fox wields over conservative media orgs. Such orgs know that if they antagonize Fox their staffers might no longer be invited on the network, and they'd lose a valuable opportunity to promote their work and drive traffic to their websites.
