Fun thread about Federalist co-founder Sean Davis:

A while back, I happened upon an old Politico article about Trump retweeting a white supremacist. It included an embedded tweet from Davis criticizing Trump. Given that Davis is now one of Trump's fiercest defenders. 1/
. . . I found that interesting. But I also noticed the tweet had been deleted. When I checked his timeline, I discovered that Davis apparently deletes all his tweets more than a few months old. So I looked for the tweet on Internet archive sites. And that turned up some... /2
. . . really interesting stuff. During the 2016 GOP primary, Davis criticized Trump as fiercely as he now defends him. In fact, he made many of the same criticisms of Trump he now angrily attacks others for making.

Trying to wrap my head around the insanity of the last week or so of headlines.

-- The Senate is debating wether to remove Trump from office for withholding foreign aid in order to strong-arm a foreign leader into announcing a bogus investigation of Trump's political opponent.
-- New text messages show that Trump's personal attorney tried to cut a deal with a corrupt Ukrainian prosecutor in which said prosecutor would produce dirt on Trump's rival if Trump recalled the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine -- an ambassador known for fighting corruption.
-- The messages also show that a Trump-endorsed GOP congressional candidate was working with Giuliani and Parnas to oust the ambassador, claimed to be surveilling her phone and computer, and appears to have threatened her safety.

The federal gov procures office space for DC’s prosecutors and public defenders. When prosecutors needed a new lease in 2017, the feds limited bids to 4 blocks from court. Now public defenders need a new lease. The radius for those bids: 1.1 miles.

It may not seem like much, but defense attorneys say a move a mile or more from the court will have a massive impact on indigent clients. It would also undermine part of what makes D.C.’s public defender office one of the best in the country. /2
The GSA (which oversees all of this) is not known to be an overly partisan or political agency, but they seem to have either ignored or disregarded the concerns of the PD’s office, as well as the two other agencies (parole and pretrial services) currently housed with the PD. /3

#ClimateChange denial type 1: LIE.
Increasingly popular in US and UK politics, simply say something that is blatantly untrue, e.g. "The Arctic is cooling", "Greenland isn't melting", "No evidence CO2 causes warming," "Brexit will be good for Britain", etc ... 2/.
#ClimateChange denial type 2: Half-truth.
Show someone half the facts and conceal the other half, and lead them to an incorrect conclusion. e.g. "Many IPCC scientists say warming estimates are over-estimated" (ignoring that at least equal number would say the opposite). 3/.

THREAD| Draft of the #Climate Change Act, presented by (@bmu) this week: The proposal is a framework law, featuring elements from international acts, e.g. from UK (@theCCCuk). In contrast to the German Climate Action Plan 2050, it will be legally binding. #Klimaschutzgesetz
2| The framework law includes emission reduction targets, defines CO2 budgets for each sector, and clarifies responsibilities, as well as review, transparency & sanctioning mechanisms. Implementation measures for each sector will be detailled in 2030 programmes, due in Mar 2019.
3| Progress will be supported by an independent advisory group of 7 experts. Focus is on reaching the 2030 CO2 reduction targets, but the draft works towards at least 95% reduction by 2050. The remaining 5% to reach #netzero could be reached through compensation policies.
