US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn: As of Friday at 6 p.m. ET, 5,861 tests for coronavirus have been completed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health labs.

Some of the most important info to know: Older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions such as heart, lung or kidney disease seem to be at higher risk for more serious COVID-19 illness.
2/ Also, experts say, this early data suggest older people are twice as likely to have serious COVID-19 illness.

Most people who contract coronavirus will have *mild* illness, so the focus will be on those most at risk.
3/ Experts caution: this has NOT been contained. The US will continue to see more community spread and more cases diagnosed. It will get worse before it gets better.

When first responders reported last week to the Life Care Center in Kirkland WA, they found an understaffed facility with inadequate gear attempting to serve dozens of patients vulnerable to catching the virus, a first responder familiar with the situation tells me. 1/
2/ There were only 3 staff members at Life Care Center Tuesday night/Wednesday morning for about 90 residents, the first responder tells me.

Neither the King County Health Department nor CDC sent personnel Thursday to provide assistance -- though they have since.
3/ Moreover, first responders were concerned that Life Care Center staff members were NOT wearing appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) to handle the high number of patients with probable coronavirus.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday that “the upsurge in violence in parts of Afghanistan over the last couple days is unacceptable.”

“In no uncertain terms, violence must be reduced immediately for the peace process to move forward,” Pompeo said, per @jmhansler.
2/ Pompeo said President Trump had discussed this directly with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. Pompeo said they knew “that the road ahead will be difficult.” He called on “all sides to stop posturing” and “start a practical discussion about prisoner releases.”
3/ “This future of this peace process isn’t just about what we do or what the Taliban does,” Pompeo said. “It’s about getting the Afghan people together to solve this problem that has plagued Afghanistan for now 40 years.”
