.@UN_Women Now imagine a world where this never happens:

🇮🇷 Iran named a @UN_Women's rights judge 1 year ago this week, after it sentenced women's rights lawyer Nasrin Sotudeh to 38 years prison & 148 lashes. unwatch.org/un-picks-iran-…

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia sits on your Executive Board.
Today is #InternationalWomensDay. Tomorrow is the 64th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia is an elected member.
🇧🇪 Belgium helped elected the Saudis, we revealed in 2017, to win its own election to the Security Council.

Also, in April 2018, Saudi Arabia was elected to the Executive Board of @UN_Women. I said: "Electing Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality & Empowerment of Women is like making a pyromanic into the town fire chief."

Happy #IWD2020
Finally, in June 2018, Saudi Arabia's rep was elected to the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women, a 23-member expert body that upholds the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

Happy #IWD2020.
Here's the UN naming Iran as judge of complaints on the "Violation of the rights of women human rights defenders to freedom of expression and assembly" — one day after Iran sentenced women's rights lawyer Nasrin Sotudeh to 38 years prison & 148 lashes.

And here's the video of @IrishMissionUN's Ambassador Byrne Nason, Chair of the UN women's rights commission, gaveling the election of #Iran's misogynystic regime to the @UN_Women's rights committee that judges complaints of women's rights violations.

By election to the UN Women’s Working Group on Communications, #Iran became a judge of the following categories of allegations of women’s rights violations worldwide:
• Arbitrary arrests of women
• Deaths and torture of women in custody
...
