Why does Italy have more #COVID deaths than the Republic of Korea? Partly due to #demography: Image
Italy has larger population than S.Korea (abt. 60m vs 51m, 2018 numbers, from mortality.org). More importantly, AGE STRUCTURE is different. More elderly people in Italy.

Graph: unisex population pyramids, Italy (L) & So.Korea (R), w other superimposed as outline. Image
The population pyramids ⬆️ illustrate: Italy's extra 9m population vs South Korea, highly concentrated in ages >60.

This will play role in mortality, as the most at-risk people for severe complications are elderly. And reports have been average age, Italian #COVID deaths: >80.
