I seriously hope the tech for that new ride hailing company works. Because you see building ride hailing apps successfully is mad difficult. Let’s even forget about the business economics. Real-time driver allocation and distribution is hard.
Demand forecasting, pricing - regular and surge, payments and reconciliation, distance and time based pricing, security, etc. Then tracking thousands of drivers and and painting them on a map is hard.
Shortest distance algorithm at scale is hard. Driver cancellation and new driver allocation is hard. Calculating a favorable ETA is hard too.
The compute resources to get this right first and foremost is mad expensive.

I once spoke to the CTO of a popular ride hailing service and he mentioned they had over 1000 microservices alone powering their system. A successful trip from start to completion will need about half of those services working in unison.
See, it’s hard. And no, this isn’t “SELECT * FROM drivers WHERE status = ‘available’” it’s a lot harder than that.
