I went to Costco today. I had meant to get there shortly before they opened, but the roads were crap after the snow last night so I got there just after 9, which is when they open. There was NOWHERE TO PARK. The huge lot was full. Completely full. #COVID19 #yyc 1/10

With people having abandoned their vehicles just wherever after the stalls all filled up. What time are people getting to Costco these days? 2/10

And as I slowly navigated my way around the lot, hoping a spot would open up and someone else wouldn't be waiting to swoop in and grab it, I saw people leaving the store with shopping carts full of... you guessed it! Toilet paper. 3/10

5, 6, 7, 8 or more Costco sized packages of toilet paper. Often that was all they had in their cart. Who the hell needs that much toilet paper? 4/10

Finally I gave up, feeling fairly certain the toilet paper was now gone. I am not hoarding. I was going to buy 2 packages, one for us and one for our daughter and her partner. Because both households are nearly out of toilet paper. It was to be just a routine restock. 5/10

Anyway, I gave up. It took about 20 minutes to get the hell out of the parking lot, because everyone has lost their minds. 6/10

I went to the nearest Calgary Co-op. They DID have toilet paper. Very expensive toilet paper. I have to think this is price gouging. I don't pay that much attention to the price of toilet paper, but this seems high... 7/10

They had almost no frozen vegetables. They had no hand sanitiser. 8/10

Nevertheless, I managed to get toilet paper, and non-perishables to fill Kate and Ty's freezer/cupboards, and ours. And I got each household kleenex and soap and cough and cold and flu remedies. So we should all be set should we need to hibernate for a bit. 9/10

There were 3 tills open and a gazillion people lined up for each, lines right down the aisles.

I am done going out anywhere for the foreseeable future. People are nuts. 10/10
