This brave A&E doctor, Nishant Joshi, just blew the whistle on the inexcusable lack of protection for frontline NHS staff.

No masks. No visors. No goggles. No gowns.

Why - WHY - is your number one priority not protecting these heroes, @borisjohnson?

I cannot be more blunt about this. Some NHS colleagues are going to die. To die from the act of trying to save the lives of others.

We will be burying our colleagues.

And yet - not one mention of proper protective equipment for staff from @borisjohnson tonight.

Not one.
And to be clear @borisjohnson, @NHSEngland, @MattHancock, @10DowningStreet, @CMO_England, @DHSCgovuk - why are NONE of you not fighting tooth and nail to protect frontline NHS staff?

The doctors & nurses fighting *themselves* to save lives.

Why?

Seriously, why?

As an NHS doctor with school age kids, the government’s key argument against closing schools - that this action will take staff away from the NHS frontline - is highly pertinent.

But surely we can show a little imagination here? (1/4)
The govt could compel schools to keep on skeleton staff to look after the children of key public sector employees, notably healthcare workers and police.

A simple, practical solution to a supposedly insurmountable problem. (2/4)
Enabling doctors like me (already trying to isolate myself as much possible) to be at work helping others.

Instead, No 10 seems to believe 60-80% spread of this deadly disease is inevitable - & we’re all too easily bored to change our behaviours for long anyway. (3/4)

Doctors & nurses at PIMS do not have protective equipment. Our hospitals dont have enough beds & ventilators. We do, however, have missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. Sure, we probably need the missiles & nukes too. Let us concede there. But can we please start
the long-avoided discussion on our budgetary allocations? Can we please talk about why so little is allocated towards health and how we got here (by here I mean hospitals that are barely functioning; underpaid & overworked health staff; shortages of medical equipment & supplies).

A really heartbreaking sight. The sacrifices from health workers in China have been immense.
This is the context of that video, reportedly related to the death of hospital director Liu Zhiming.
This is making the rounds, claiming to be Chinese escaping the country into Vietnam. I'm almost certain that it is misrepresented, and that this is not true.

I used a standardized array of interview questions across 15 hours of interviews with trans folks regarding their experiences seeking health care in the United States, both POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE, to give providers #narrative examples/guidelines on what not to do, AND what to do.
I did the interviews and my research assistants (@BreanneRBurton, Ren Czachor, Jake Richardson, and Harry Silvey) transcribed them so that no unknown persons would have access to the audio. While some participants gave permission to share audio, all permit sharing transcripts.

#Burnout among #doctors & #nurses appears to be at epidemic proportions these days, with concomitant prescriptions for wellness and resilience. But in reality, most are not burned out: most love taking care of patients and want nothing more than to be able to do just that.
#Resilience? The medical folks I see are among the most resilient people in existence. That they manage to soldier on and not walk out en masse—that’s resilience!

#Wellness? That’s like a kindly offer of an ice pack from a mafioso after he’s kneecapped you with a baseball bat.
The corporatization of medicine has profoundly changed the tenor of medical practice. Somewhere along the line, the medical profession was ceded to the health care industry.

Many of us no longer recognize the profession we entered.
