PSA: My mother-in-law passed away last night due to complications related to cancer. She was 77, in a hospice facility & we were prepared for her passing.

But not being able to hold a funeral & the challenges of crying while wearing a mask we were not prepared for.

This is the SURREAL discussion we had to have that led to the decision of not holding a funeral service:

1) If its 10 or less people, how do you select which ones?

2) Most of her friends who would insist on coming are 75+.

3) How do you enforce no hugging in times of mourning?
We also hope by communicating our reasons for NOT holding a service will help educate those who may not be as informed or fully understand risks about COVID-19.

We are showing how serious we are taking this to those that may not have been listening or believing.

The Director of OPM resigned ABRUPTLY on Tues. She stepped down, according to two sources, because of poor treatment from John McEntee, the 29-year-old head of the Presidential Personnel Office.

Think of OPM as the HR depart for ALL federal employees.

OPM is the agency Congress wouldn't let WH get rid of last year. They wanted to merge OPM's policy side into the WH & then merge what was left of OPM with GSA, the fed agency that manages PROPERTY.

But Congress said no. Looks like WH found a workaround.

OPM was created because of WATERGATE to RESTORE the public’s TRUST in the GOVERNMENT by ensuring that fed employees are promoted based on merit, RATHER than political allegiance, and that government power was NOT ABUSED for partisan battles.

We've been monitoring the news closely as well. While I'm not a public health expert, I do have some insights on community mental health RN
While memes and jokes will tell you that mental health user/survivors are adept at cancelling plans and staying in for extended periods, the current situation isn't a laughing matter at all.

AFAIK most workplaces don't offer work from home options and are still working as usual
For someone living with Mental Illness, holding on to a job is essential given the costs of mental healthcare in our country. The added stress of #CoronaVirus is certainly the last thing someone with fragile Mental Health needs

Until last month, the only thing I really knew about Wuhan was that it had a rocking live music scene (because we published like a dozen features on Wuhan punk, Wuhan black metal, Wuhan hip-hop etc). Now it'll be forever associated with #coronavirus. I know there's worse things
in this tragedy (the teenager with cerebral palsy who died due to neglect when he DIDN'T have the virus is the case I can't get out of my head) but it's sad to think that this city will now mostly be known for death and disease instead of its arts and culture.
