Due to the high volume of #COVID19 #IBD patients @nyulangone , we developed a management protocol that incorporates #COVID19 severity, risk factors, and #IBD activity. We recognize this is a challenging time and we look forward to further guidance and input into our protocol.

We look forward to input and we are aware #Hydroxychloroquine is becoming increasingly difficult to find in #NYC pharmacies #IBD
To further clarify, none of these patients were seen in person at our #IBD center. All are being managed at home through @nyulangone virtual care and none have required hospitalization. This protocol for outpatient, virtual management only!

1/ A friend from Australia shared a #covid experience. #pocus #covid19

An elderly patient with chronic lung disease came to ED with SOB. An echo showed new cardiac dysfunction and lung oedema. The patient died and was found to be coronavirus positive.

Lessons for us: PPE for every new patient with risk factors.

Don't expose yourself unnecessarily by doing an ultrasound. X-ray is adequate.

Patient with respiratory failure goes straight to ICU isolation for intubation.

Avoid non-invasive ventilation and nebs which aerosolize coronavirus, and seem to be ineffective in coronavirus respiratory distress syndrome.

Know that cardiac dysfunction is a big part of covid.
