Had we had Twitter during freedom struggle some of us would have tweeted at @Mahatma and said

“Dude, you are trying too hard”

“Cut the crap, What Dandi March? We need action”

“Satyagraha? Swadeshi moment? Have you lost it”

Thank god we didn’t have SM. 1/n
Indians are not just the 300 million English speaking population who has access to Internet. India is 1.2 billion people with a major percentage of them living in semi urban & rural areas. None of them took #Coronavirus seriously. Tier 2 & 3 towns were oblivious & carefree. 2/n
So while you being an armchair activist can compare Modi’s speech with other leaders and ridicule it, have you tried to understand the context with which it was done?
If you listen to the speech you would know the focus was on telling Indians to take this epidemic seriously. 3/n
The first step is get all of us on the same page. Not just you who is tweeting the snarky comments but everyone whom you pretend to care about. No not your follower audience bro the folks who use vernacular apps & whom you are trying to woo and cater to. 4/n
Oh and you have a problem with CTA of showing gratitude at 5PM. Don’t fucking do it. This if it can get through your blind hatred is to invoke the feeling that we are all in this together. And to give confidence that we can do social distancing on Sunday & next 2 weeks. 5/n
Oh you don’t have balconies to go to and show gratitude. Tweet your gratitude no? Donate money? Do something. Don’t tell me you were using humour to cope. That’s a lie. You are full of hatred & can’t separate actions objectively. You are being a bigot now. Yes you are. 6/n
Yes, can we do better, of course we can. Can we announce stimulus? Of course we should. But what’s the first thing to do for social distancing to work? Convince people to take CoronaVirus seriously. 1.2 billion people. Not just you tweeting from your smartphones. Everyone. 7/n
So while you post your snarky comments on saying speech could have been an email I am glad none of us were alive during the freedom struggle. We would have diluted that movement too. Because being witty & rebel is more important than saving the country. Right? 8/n
For once put your hatred aside & question with your heart at the right place. Question the less number of tests, Question the medical preparedness, Question where’s the stimulus. Please objectively see what’s the need of the hour. And for once do what you pretend to do. Care. 9/n
It is horrific to see us spending our talent in providing snarky stupid comments & feeling good about ourselves. When we should find ways to tackle the situation together. Chant Azadi but first save the nation & later get freedom from it. 10/10
