Fauci is a worse-case scenario guy w/ research 2 back it up-(very thorough) which is exactly what many docs are. They HAVE to, by training, deliver difficult news, some are ‘better' at it than others.
He may look like a ‘genius’ / hero due to initial hyperbole as in ‘our mitigation efforts really paid off!’
