Another article that normalizes Trump by downplaying his narcissism and calling it “politics.” What follows are two examples./1 washingtonpost.com/politics/both-…
They describe Trump’s unhinged rant praising himself on Fox & Friends about what a great job he’s doing as his cool assessment of “the political implications of the virus.” /2
Then, they discuss his “clash with Democratic governors, especially when he has felt they were insuffficiently appreciative,” as if this is some kind of normal political dispute, rather than a president threatening in a fit of childish pique to let Americans die. /3
These sorts of normalizing analyses ignore and downplay the real story-Trump arbitrarily set an absurd deadline to “reopen the country, brags about himself constantly, and threatened to let blue-state Americans die-and, inadvertently or not, serve to give Trump cover. /4
The @washingtonpost reinforces Trump’s perspective, when the obvious news is that Trump 1) set an arbitrary deadline of Easter, against the advice of experts; 2) brags on tv about himself in the middle of a pandemic that he has exacerbated; 3) threatened to harm Americans. /5
