Got served the “Tabdeeli” that I volunteered for & it feels amazing. Sharing my experience on @pid_govt ‘s initiative of bringing home stranded Pakistanis. Hats off to all leading Covid-19 initiatives especially @Asad_Umar @sayedzbukhari @YusufMoeed @zfrmrza @mophrd (see thread)
First a little background - been wanting to come to Pakistan since March 20 as family was here , but couldn’t reunite due to travel bans. Was extremely depressed for the last two weeks, then heard about these limited PIA flights - booked right away & came to Islamabad via Toronto
Social distancing was practiced on PIA flight, masks were required and all staff followed safety procedures. Upon arrival, we all had to register for the Covid-19 tests.
At the registration, they asked for CNIC card and noted down details including our destination in Pakistan for tracking purposes I believe. Once registered, we got this tracking number for our test
Testing was performed with great care and we only got to proceed to immigration area after showing the proof of taking the test. We also had to fill a form and turn that in along with getting our temperature tested
Once temperature was deemed ok and short interview about how we were feeling health wise, we were allowed to proceed to immigration area which followed the social distancing procedures
Family members who came to pick up were kept at distance without any exceptions allowed. We were escorted by the security staff to the buses, which took us to Regalia Hotel to wait for test results. Felt like being part of Sri Lankan cricket team getting escorted to the Stadium
Check-in at hotel was smooth. No one had to wait as rooms were ready & the hotel staff was super courteous at Regalia Hotel, following all safety procedures. Families were advised to get separate rooms for each member. We were asked not to leave room before getting test results
Hotel room was top notch and after the long journey, seeing a nice bed felt great.
Food was served in the room to ensure a successful quarantine.
There was a lot of tension about the Covid-19 test results but due to hotel accommodation, the potential 14 day recovery quarantine didn’t look all that bad. We all prayed that whole flight tests negative.
Breakfast was served in the room at 9am and we were asked to wait for test results until 10am. Breakfast was great, tasted even better with watching Babar Azam’s inning against New Zealand.
Shortly after breakfast, the staff knocked on our doors and shared our results. Alhamdulillah, my results were negative and I will be allowed to leave the hotel.
On March 23, 2013 at Minar e Pakistan, @ImranKhanPTI promised that he will ensure that Pakistanis will be treated with dignity. Over the last two days, I witnessed the Tabdeeli he promised. The overseas ministry & all Covid 19 team of Pakistan made such good arrangements (cont.)
... that we all forgot the depression we went through over the last two weeks being separated from our families. They were not Government workers, they were Humanitarians; I will never forget this experience. Gratitude to @Asad_Umar @sayedzbukhari @YusufMoeed @zfrmrza @mophrd
This Government’s response to Covid 19 has been nothing short of exemplary. Balance of safety, feeding the poor and keeping economy afloat doesn’t have easy decisions. May have bless @ImranKhanPTI and his team for providing leadership in these challenging times. #PakistanZindabad
Last thing I want to add is a video compilation of the journey. In past two weeks, I have entered USA, UK & Pakistan; I have to say that Pakistan has the best entry procedures by far. Junaid Jamshed’s song verse comes to mind “Aanay walay daur k insaan hum se jeena seekhain gey”
