⚡️JUST IN: #Russia/n peacekeepers reported to be deployed in #NagornoKarabakh, as part of the trilateral agreement b/n #Moscow, #Armenia & #Azerbaijan.
The peacekeepers will be supported by all branches of military, including airforces, artillery, special focres & navy
#Putin-#Aliev-#Pashinyan peace agreement:
- Parties preserve their positions as fixed at the moment (Shusha under AZ control)
- #Armenia de-occupies territories around #NagornoKarabakh + part of Karabakh that #Azerbaijan took over
-ARM keeps 5 km Lachin corridor
- RU peacekeepers be deployed to the Lachin & line of contact b/n ARM & AZ in Karabakh for 5 years
+ prolongation for 5 more years if parties agree
- there'll be 1,960 RU peacekeepers w/ small arms,
90 armored fighting vehicles,
380 pieces of automotive & specialized equipment.
- all economic & transport ties in the region should be unblocked. Armenia should provide transportation connection b/n W areas of AZ & Nakhichevan to allow for free passage of citizens, goods & vehicles. Control over this transportation flow will be conducted by #Russia's FSB
- Exchange of prisoners and bodies of the killed.
- Return of refugees & IDPs to #NagornoKarabakh & AZ areas around it previously occupied by ARM should be overseen by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
No sooner the joint agreement was voiced by three leaders (Puitn, Aliev, Pashinyan) then protesters in #Yerevan moved to storm the building of the government of #Armenia. Seems Pashinyan is done.
BOOM! Here comes the blueprint: #Azerbaijan/i President Aliev says #Russia & #Turkey will jointly deploy peacekeepers in #NagornoKarabakh.
UNCONFIRMED sources suggest #Ankara will sign a separate deal w/ #Moscow on observation posts.
Bad news for Armenia..@RTErdogan has his day
Meanwhile protests in front of #Armenia's gov building reportedly mounting
First impression:#Russia invested a lot of political capital & diplomatic mastery into the deal.
That #Turkey pushed itself in this deal is a win for Ankara.Minsk group,France,#EU,#US left aside (so far).
Things in Karabakh were handing on a thread.
Now they hang on a few threads
LATEST on #Russia/n policy activity (possibly) related to #NagornoKarabakh: 1. Contacts increase w/ #Iran over last couple of days. IRN ambassador in #Moscow twice hosted by #Lavrov's deputies: officially - one time to discuss #Syria, Gulf, the other - Eurasian Economic Union.
2. #UAE's Crown prince Mohammed bin Zayed called #Putin yesterday. #Kremlin's presser says the two focused on "Middle East settlement and cooperation on #COVID19" (Emiraties now testign #Russia/n Sputnik V vaccine).
3. On Oct. 11 Lavrov spoke on the phone w/ @MevlutCavusoglu. The @mfa_russia presser (attached) says Moscow & Ankara noted "need to strictly comply w/ terms of the Joint Statement by Foreign Ministers of #Russia,#Armenia & #Azerbaijan" but I'm guessing #Turkey sees it differently
#Putin gave an interview yesterday where he spoke at length about #America's #DemocraticParty, his vision for working w/ @JoeBiden, if the latter is elected #POTUS.
Here's a short THREAD:
1."We hear rather sharp anti #Russia/n rhetoric frm #Biden.Sadly,we now used to it.But something worth mentioning.
-Dem Party traditionally closer to so-called liberal values,to Social Dem ideas,if compared to Europe. It was frm Social Dem environment that Communist Party evolved
2."After all,I was a member of Soviet Communist Party for nearly 20 years,more precisely 18 years.
I was a rank-&-file member,but I believed in the party’s ideas.I still like many of these left-wing values.Equality and fraternity. What is bad about them?.."
Earlier, I forecasted 👇 that #Turkey's ultimate goal in this war was not to fight anyone but get a new deal with #Russia. It was obvious from @RTErdogan's criticism of Minsk OSCE group performance on #Karabakh. Bu the devil is in details & here they are
1.#Turkey's position - to support #Azerbaijan - meant to disguise its interest - to extend its influence in #Caucasus.
Turkey hopscotching crises -#Greece/#Cyprus,#Libya,#Syria now Karabakh to increase its capitalization in the market of regional powers w/ great power ambitions
#Turkey's President #Erdogan on the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh: "#Armenia has demonstrated yet again that it remains single biggest threat to peace & stability in the region."
#Azerbaijan President Aliev: Early in the morning #Armenia used different weapons & heavy artillery to shell several of our settlements, we have some casualties. May Allah lay to rest souls of the martyrs, we'll revenge for their blood.This is manifestation of Armenian fascism"
In 1987 young businessman @realDonaldTrump took his second wife Ivana to Leningrad, Soviet Union.
Saucy & stylish, #Trump sought to negotiate construction of Trump hotel(s) in what is now called the city of St. Petersburg.
#Trump failed to reach a deal on the hotel but made critical remarks on USSR & its then leader Mikhail Gorbachev:in his interview with Playboy magazine he
called the Soviet system "disaster" predicted a soon revolution in the country & said Gorbachev was just too weak as a leader
While #Trump was chilling & eyeing business opportunities in #Putin's native Leningrad, future #Russia/n President would be in his 2nd year as a Soviet intelligence officer in GDR, stationed in Dresden under the cover of a director of the USSR-GDR friendship cultural center.
#Russia's President #Putin delivered a pre-recorded video address to the 75th anniversary session of #UNGA
Here're some key points:
1/ Victory over Nazis helped construct post-war world order,lay out 5 principles:
- equality of sovereign states;
- non-interference w/ domestic affairs;
-the right of peoples to determine their own future;
- non-use of force or threat of force;
- political settlement of disputes
2/ Despite criticism:
-UN instrumental in protecting peace,promoting development,providing assistance in mitigating local crises;
-UN potential is"enormous",expertise is "relevant"
-UN should adapt to modern world realia that's getting more complicated,multipolar,multidimensional
