my experience with SBPP (gov loan), a thread:
to start off, i need to give a bit of my A level background. i took maths bio and chem in MD
and alhamdulillah i got BBB (300 tariff pts)
and the course i want to pursue is Physiotherapy, an allied health profession that can work in hospitals, rehab centres, sports complex, etc
its been one of the courses that i have been eyeing on for awhile, and i even had attachments for this course(2x in ripas and 1x in smrc)
it was bec of my personal experience as a patient which led me to being interested in this course
this course is not offered in any of our local unis, so i know i have to study abroad to pursue it
i was aware of this ever since i was in MS doing my olevels
so i studied hard and all that, gone thru attachments to get a glimpse of the career and improved myself by volunteering and learning life
after my results were out, i was happy and started looking thru opportunities to study abroad
and there they are, to options: 1) scholarship 2) gov loan
two***
the list of courses available to apply for scholarship were already posted earlier that year, and unfortunately physiotherapy wasnt offered
but for the list of courses available for loan werent out yet, so everyone didnt know what was offered for it yet
after consulting w sbpp officers and fellow seniors, they insisted to just apply and 'liatlah nanti if ada'
i got offers from Sheffield Hallam, Keele, Brunel, Robert Gordon and Swansea(but this is for sport science as my backup)
after my attachments in ripas, i have decided to firm my offer with Sheff Hallam due to strong recommendations from a fellow ripas physio
and applied the sbpp with my sheff hallam's offer on the 30th march 2017
on the 5th of may, list of courses were out and sadly physiotherapy wasnt in the list (the list was out when i was playing futsal in bibd)
i was worried if my application wont be considered, so i met with one of the sbpp officers, lets call her cikgu A
so cikgu A told me how my course is unlikely to be considered bec they had a meeting with moh and claimed that physios are at a surplus
which is bs bec when i had my attachment at ripas, they were all excited to have another physio coming in the future
and told me how they are outnumbered with the work (10-13 physios in ripas, 2 in tutong,1 in belait if im not mistaken)(correct me if salah)
kalau buat ratio thats like 1 physio: 10000 patients in brunei so yes they are in deficit
and after telling that to cikgu A she understood and told me to ask ripas and smrc(stadium) that physios are still needed
and they gladly did (ripas punya letter was 2 pages and smrc 3 full of reasons that physio is still needed)
and after getting the letters, i sent them to sbpp but cikgu A wasnt there
but i was taken to another person, cikgu B
after reading the letters, cikgu B said that with or without the letters its still very unlikely hence useless
this is because both letters didnt mention if there will be a job vacancy for it after i graduate
which is absurd to put in the letter bec nobody knows in 3 years if ada vacancy or not??!!?!?
my dad was there and ofcourse he was pissed but i said to cikgu B that im just gonna send the letter with my application
and let the committee decide it for me
on the 3rd of july, i got called for the interview and alhamdulillah that means im one step closer to achieving what i want
atupun dorang call on a very short notice lmao (monday kena call esok interview caik)
but regardless i did my best in the interview eventho i couldve done better
on 17th of august, the loan results were out
BUT only 29 people got it which suprised everyone as last year kan semua orang dapat
which was suspicious and found out that the results are coming out in batches
and this idea 🍳🍳🍳 pasal orang kan start belajar bulan 9 bahHHH
and then, something unexpected came into my email
on the 19th aug, Sheff Hallam withdrawn my offer because i didnt deposit and fill in their prof requirements as well as DBS on time
after consulting w james hon, he helped me in talking w sheff hallam reps to hold onto my offer but they can only hold it for a week
a week came by and my results werent out yet ( i was on the waiting list)
so to deduce, i no longer had a uk uni in hand
my parents were frustrated about it and told me to apply a uni in malaysia saja and they can fund me
ofcourse i didnt want it, i know my results were good enough for the loan and to put them on another burden is something i never planned abt
after numerous istiharah and consulting with few people (which includes family teachers and friends), i decided to follow my parents' wishes
got an offer from MAHSA university and alhamdulillah they gave me a scholarship as well(30% off the total tuition fee)
and paid for the application and registeration fee for about 5400 rm (1800bnd) in limbang
did my medical before paying ofcourse
sekalinya on the 4th of september, i got called and i was awarded the loan
it was too late for me to accept it as i didnt have any uk uni anymore at that time
not knowing what to do, i met an officer at sbpp, this time a kind and more understanding cikgu, cikgu C
cikgu C understood my position, and wanted the best for me as he knows that as a parent
so he told me to write a letter to the head of SBPP, asking them to approve my change of uni for my loan to MAHSA instead of Sheff Hallam
a week after i got called and unfortunately it wasnt approved bec the uni is unranked (it was a college and baru kena promote to uni status)
cikgu C told me to change my uni to a ranked msia uni (a tier 5: excellent uni) if i wanted to keep the loan and not let my parents fund me
both my parents told me to change to another uni despite losing 1800bnd (the deposit for MAHSA was non refundable)
so with the help of ms rozi from meg, i got a new offer from INTI IU, a miracle under a short notice prior to start this october
as this time we were more confident from the encouragement of cg C, we paid the deposit, visa charge and all without looking back
after 2 weeks of waiting for the approval, on the 30th of september, my mom was called by moe, stating that the change of uni wasnt approved
this is simply bec SBPP do not want to send students to msia anymore and want to focus in sending to uk, aus or nz
and after meeting cikgu C yesterday, the committee said that it was bec the results from previous SBPP awardees in msia was too outstanding
and theyre scared if what theyve been taught didnt have much quality compared to unis in other countries
and that is absurd, what if dorang belajar banar banar to get excellent results? inda quality enough kah?
aku inda marah tapi inda faham kenapa pemikirannya cematu atu saja
and now theyre asking me to change my uni to either australia or nz
why i dont want to change my uni 1) i istiharah and feel msia is right 2) aus uni tinggi requirement 3) nz pun still uncertain for a place
so yes im still stuck
and now, im waiting for the dukacita letter to reach my house
and reply nanti to strengthen my points why my loan to msia should be reconsidered
my admission for this course is exactly in 2 weeks and everything is uncertain again
will update the thread once theres news but til then pray for me
update : almost two weeks and the sbpp unit has not contacted me ever since
under consideration or lapas tangan we all dont know hahaha
as of right now, i am on fama scholarship
aka father mother scholarship lmaO
mentioned to moe im flying off tomorrow and still no response ahahahahahah wow
الحمدلله wa استغفرالله
