THREAD: as a gender nonconforming trans femme, every day is #NationalComingOutDay for me. Even in queer spaces, I must assert that I exist. 
I come out multiple times every day. Every time a reporter misgenders me and I have to decide whether to correct them now email them later
Every time someone refers to me as "Dad" in front of my kid, & I have to decide whether its safe to correct them (often my kid just does it)
Every time I meet someone new, and quietly do the math and decide whether to casually work the fact that I am trans into our conversation
so as to avoid them misgendering me to someone else, and also just so they know me as who I actually am, and can see me as my true self
Just as I come out every day, if we're accepting that framework then I also hide in the closet every day, multiple times a day
Every time I decide to use a men's restroom, because it feels like the safest option, i make a conscious choice to hide who i am to be safer
Every time I choose not to correct someone who calls me "sir," either because I don't feel safe, or it just feels not worth the effort
I love my life and I love myself. I love being gender fluid and I am happy with my body. I feel incredibly lucky to feel that way.
But the process of constantly coming out and hiding in closets can be exhausting. Sometimes it's painful. Sometimes it's dangerous.
Some of the worst transphobia i've experienced has been in queer spaces. Some of the worst gender policing has been from other femmes
#NationalComingOutDay celebrates an important part of our collective queer story, but there are a lot of other stories that don't quite fit
For those of us who are nonbinary, gender fluid, gender nonconforming, a-gender, etc. we live in a constant state of "not quite fitting."
no singular at of "coming out" or "acceptance" can fix that. liberation won't be won until we win a culture war against rigid gender roles
