Whichever way there are two problems. Circumventing Barnier and going to Member States won’t help. Looks like trying to undermine him. (4/7)
Second, Member States know what 🇬🇧 position is (based on Florence Speech) and it’s not enough. No way to break deadlock by trying to (5/7)
divide 🇪🇺, or trying to explain. 🇬🇧 needs more generous or more creative solutions, or needs to shift its position. No sign of that. (6/7)
Plus May & Davis have v little room for manoeuvre as May’s govt so weak and majority so narrow. No way out of this maze. (7/7)

This brilliant put-down by @piris_jc was not only amusing, brutal, and correct...

...but made me get around to writing a blog post I've been meaning to write for ages.
Twitter may have its problems as a social network, and its fair share of detractors, but as a means to understand what is going on with #Brexit there is nothing like it.

But I am followed by the guy who wrote part of the Treaty of Lisbon! If you're an 🇪🇺 nerd, isn't that 😎?

Before this week's #Brexit shenanigans, I said this:

"With May as Prime Minister there can be no Brexit deal"

I stand by that statement

I see no way that the #EUCO - ongoing as I write this thread - can give May anything that'll appease the Brexit hard liners in her party

🇪🇺 is not going to make the backstop time limited or allow 🇬🇧 to unilaterally withdraw it. So the deal on the table is essentially unchanged
The Tories reaching across the political divide to Labour still looks like a ridiculously long shot as well:

In less than a fortnight the Commons is likely to reject May's Brexit in the Meaningful Vote.

When it does, the #PeoplesVote (a 2nd referendum) could yet be an appealing way forward.

I'm not much of a fan of referendums, but I see no way to stop #Brexit without a further vote. There are numerous practical barriers to holding a further vote, all of them surmountable.

BUT the main question is this:
*** How could such a vote result in a REMAIN vote? ***

Immigrants have guts. We're talking about people who pack up their lives and head to a completely new country. People who, the moment they step off the plane, know they have every pillar of security, whether welfare or mum's couch, knocked out from under them.
Immigrants have confidence. They know that, wherever they're going, they'll do well for themselves. Whatever job they're going to, they're going to knock it out of the park, whatever it might be. Because to an immigrant, their skill and ability is their security.
