THREAD.

Let’s face it, 2017 has been more the worst of times than the best of times. And yet there is so very much we are thankful for: 1/
We are thankful for the folks at @IndivisibleTeam who probably had no idea what they were getting into when they posted that google doc last year, but who have continued to provide invaluable guidance & leadership. We wouldn’t be here without them. 2/
We are thankful for the millions of Women’s Marchers around the world who stood up and said “Hell No!” For many of us, it was the first moment we realized we wouldn’t be alone in this fight. 3/
We are thankful for the spontaneous protests that erupted following the initial travel ban, rejecting the xenophobia & bigotry of Trump’s agenda. 4/
We are thankful for the lawyers who rushed to the airports to defend immigrants’ rights, and for the ACLU, who took the fight to the courts—and won. 5/
We are thankful for the judiciary, which has emerged as one of the most important checks on this administration’s efforts to abuse power and subvert the rule of law. 6/
We are thankful for the state & local governments who have stepped up to take the lead in fighting climate change, given the shameful absence of leadership on the federal level. 7/
We are thankful for the cities (including Denver) that have shown a willingness to defend the rights of immigrants and refugees by limiting cooperation w/ the draconian immigration policies of DHS and ICE. 8/
We are thankful for everyone who attended a town hall this year & participated in the time-honored tradition of yelling at politicians in public, demanding that our representatives hear our voices. 9/
We are thankful for everyone who has @SenCoryGardner on speed dial. 10/
We are thankful for those protestors who were willing to put their bodies on the line in defense of health care. (Shout out to @AtlantisADAPT & @DSAdenver for their sit-ins in @SenCoryGardner’s Denver office). 11/
We are thankful for @lisamurkowski, @SenatorCollins & @SenJohnMcCain who were willing to look beyond partisan politics & put the needs of their constituents above the wishes of their party. (And we hope they continue to do so…) 12/
We are thankful for the DREAMers, who remind us that we must continue to fight to ensure America becomes a more welcoming & diverse country. 13/
We are thankful for the Movement for Black Lives and all individuals & organizations working for racial justice and the dismantling of white supremacy. 14/
We are thankful for all the organizations that emerged this year (@swingleft, @flippable_org, @runforsomething & many more), to help channel the energy & outrage on the left toward eventual electoral victory. 15/
We are thankful for the voters in Virginia & around the country who turned out on Nov. 7 to demonstrate that the energy of the #Resistance can lead to success at the ballot box. (Bring on 2018!✊🏼) 16/
We are thankful for all the non-white and/or non-male candidates who were inspired to run for office this year (and win!), making our government more truly representative of our communities. 17/
We are thankful for the women who have bravely shared their stories of sexual harassment & abuse. #MeToo shows other survivors they are not alone and is sparking what we hope is an enduring cultural shift. 18/
We are thankful for investigative journalists & the free press for exercising their 1st Amendment rights and holding those in power accountable for their actions. 19/
We are thankful for the activists who have been doing this work for years, and who have offered crucial guidance & support to us newbies who are building the airplane as we learn to fly it (shout-out to @ProgressNowCO among so many others for all their help). 20/
We are thankful for the relationships we have built through this work, this new family we have found that shares our worries, grief, rage & urgency to act. This newfound sense of community is what most fills us with HOPE. 21/
And last but certainly not least, we are thankful for YOU, the people who not only dare to dream of a better future for our country, but who are also willing to roll up their sleeves to do the work to make that dream a reality. 22/22
