If I'm lucky enough to have you as a follower, you'll know I'm not one for Twitter threads. But I'm angry and need to vent. This is directed to the RNC, the GOP, and anyone who claims they are 'evangelical' or 'a person of faith' but continue to support or endorse Roy Moore.
When my husband was in the US Navy, we endured the indignities of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ But you shouted, ‘Not good enough! They should be banned! No gays in the military!’ - despite the fact most of you never had the courage or genuine patriotism to serve your country.
For years we heard you debate, judge, and condemn our relationship. You protested gay weddings (including our own). ‘It’s against the Holy sanctity of marriage!’ you cried -- yet you’re deafeningly, hypocritically silent about infidelity and divorce among yourselves.
When we stood in front of the White House bathed in a rainbow to celebrate marriage equality, you shouted, ‘It’s wrong! It’s against God!’ then poured your money into orgs against equality and charlatans like Kim Davis, while ignoring the homeless veterans sleeping in DC doorways
You’ve guilted and bullied women and girls not ready to be mothers into giving birth to children they don’t want, can’t afford, or can’t cope with (all while blaming them for their ‘promiscuity,’ but entirely absolving the men who share responsibility for the pregnancy.)
‘All life is precious! Life begins at conception!’ you scream – but you selfishly, conceitedly reject funding any program designed to give them help once the baby is born.
Then you have the unmitigated nerve to condemn the 1000s of gay couples who adopt these kids when they are abandoned and devote their love, lives and income into raising them in a safe home.
Take a look at the past 3 years and how your ‘faith leaders’ have behaved. Just to name a few: the one who confessed to molesting his sisters (Josh Duggar); the one who shuttered the doors of his megachurch denying shelter to hurricane victims (Joel Osteen);
and the one who covered up sexual assault for political gain (Tony Perkins). There’s that particularly spiteful one who calls gay people ‘godless’ while doing everything in his power to drive gay people away from the church with lies (Franklin Graham).
And, of course, there was the time your leaders ‘laid hands on’ and ‘prayed over’ a blatant racist who mocks disabled people, disrespects women, denies comfort to refugees fleeing war, and bilks power to increase his personal wealth in an Oval Office you helped put him in.
And now, after years of pushing the insidious lie that gay people are a danger to children, you have a ‘godly’ man credibly, verifiably accused by multiple women of childhood sexual assault & harassment and you're actively endorsing him.
So he’ll vote on a tax bill you think will make you richer!
You people are fucking ridiculous. You are beyond laughable. You are beyond hypocritical. And, if I were a religious man, I’d say you were beyond ‘saving.’
Don't say ‘Those people don’t represent us!’ Bullshit. After all of this, after the years of hypocrisy, the suffering you’ve inflicted on others, the picking-and-choosing what parts of the Bible you shove down America’s throats, they don’t just represent you. They ARE you.
And you deserve every bit of the vile, bitter aftertaste you have (or pretend you have) in the back of your throat when you cast your votes for these morally bankrupt frauds. Because it’s the same shudder of shame that the rest of us feel every time we hear you or see you.
So go ahead and keep selling yourselves on the idea that you’re the ‘moral backbone of America.’ Just remember: WE are keeping the receipts.
