16th-century German monk Martin Luther called the tendency to cowardly obfuscate the true meaning of things (instead of naming evil as evil) a "theology of glory."
The right wing in this country regularly worship at the altar of this kind of God-talk (and not just evangelicals). They cannot stand to call a thing what it is.
When the current president was elected, it most certainly wasn't white identity politics and racism that propelled him, it was "economic anxiety."
The 1% (and its 1%) who become more obscenely rich –– while often blaming the poor for their work ethic while simultaneously shaming them for not being content with their lot –– are now nicely-fashioned "job creators."
The white supremacist Confederate traitors, after losing the Civil War so thoroughly, said, no, no, we love black people. We only care about "state's rights" and "big government."
Faced with the reality of what a monster AIDS really was, the morality preachers in the 1980s –– who said LGBTQ+ people were getting what they deserved as they lay dying in the streets –– all of the sudden said, "No, we don't hate. We love the sinner...we just 'hate the sin.'"
We can't call out the über-fragile NRA and its mechanisms of death for being a terrorist organization, so we sheepishly talk about "constitutional protections."
We don't call the Parkland murderer what he is, a sycophantic white supremacist who adores the alt-right, so he's just a "troubled kid" (being seen as a kid was a courtesy the lynched Tamir Rice was never afforded).
Again and again and again the right-wing holds us hostage to the deep-seated fear of ever calling a thing what it is, and instead dances around the evils in our society while we destroy ourselves from the inside and refuse to look in the mirror.
...but apparently *I* am the fragile snowflake so desperately in bondage to "political correctness.”

Right.
