1. Thinking about the veto threat. Did President Trump just lead the entire Swamp into a trap?
2. The timing of the threat is very curious. Just yesterday BEFORE the vote, Trump's WH was saying they would not veto it.
3. The swamp is now on record of voting for this funding bill. In the house it passed with 266-157. (90 GOP and 77 dems voted no in the house). It passed in the Senate 65-32. Both are short of the number needed to override a veto.
4. It's close. The Senate needs 66 and the House needs around 290. However, Congress is now in a two week recess, so I believe President Trump can use what is known as a pocket veto,
5. The pocket veto is an absolute veto that cannot be overridden.

"an indirect veto of a legislative bill by the president or a governor by retaining the bill unsigned until it is too late for it to be dealt with during the legislative session."
6. Here is a good history and beginning guide to the pocket veto:

7. So Congress was told Thursday the POTUS will sign the bill. They rush to pass it. Then adjourn for 2 weeks Easter vacation and THEN POTUS says "I might veto it."
8. The timing is really something to behold

"He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight." Sun Tzu
9. If he doesn't sign it today. The government shuts down. Congress is in recess for two weeks. They can't pass a short-term fix. He can keep the bill for 10 days. Congress can't do anything. They could reconvene but knowing Congress they won't until Monday at the earliest.
10. Many Congress members are traveling out of the country. Congress is in a very big bind right now. The VETO THREAT is very real.
11. "Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate". Sun Tzu
12. Again the swamp is caught unawares:
"Capitol Hill is unprepared for the threat, as members of the House and Senate are scattering across the country as Congress heads into a recess."

13. "Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance." Sun Tzu
14. Was it a trap? I don't know. I guess it will be determined on if he signs it or vetoes it.

but....
