Central Statistics Organisation released the 25th Issue of the Energy Statistics in India in March 2018. Follow this thread for highlights:
In March 2017, thermal power plants accounted for 71% of India's installed capacity. Hydro accounted for 11.81%, nuclear energy 1.8% (1/8)
Rajasthan has 14% of India's renewable power capacity (167.28 GW), followed by Gujarat (13% or 157.16 GW) and Maharashtra (10% or 119.89 GW) (2/8)
In 9 yrs to 2016-17, estimated consumption of raw coal by India's industrial sector rose 67% to 843 million tonnes (MT) (3/8)
In 2016-17, electricity generating units consumed highest amount (527.26 MT) of coal, followed by steel and washery (54.15 MT), cement industries (6.43 MT) and sponge iron industries (5.68 MT) (4/8)
In March 2017, India's estimated coal reserves 315.14 billion tonnes (BT), up 2% from 2016. Maharashtra accounted for highest rise in reserves (7.1%) (5/8)
In 9 yrs to 2016-17, India's estimated consumption of crude oil rose 57% to 245 million metric tonnes (6/8)
In a year to 2016-17, India's estimated crude oil reserves declined 2.65%. Andhra Pradesh saw most decline (25%), followed by Rajasthan (23%), Arunachal Pradesh (13%), Gujarat (2%) and Assam (1%). Eastern offshore saw 12% rise in reserves; Tamil Nadu 0.04% (7/8)
Natural gas was most used is in fertilisers industry (30%), followed by power generation (24%) and domestic fuel (15%) (8/8)
