As @ethanz said, the web's "original sin" was that it had no built-in monetization so the model that developed on top of it has largely been ad-supported. We've known for a while, and it's been made even clearer recently: Ads are not the answer. 2/5

This happened because payments technology wasn't ready. But it is now. With the technologies we’ve helped build @Ripple—#XRP and @Interledger—we can process trillions of transactions per second without any central authority. 3/5

Using this tech, @Coil_'s first product will be a flat-rate subscription for consumers to support creators, breeze past paywalls, see fewer ads, and unlock additional features and content. We'll launch soon. 4/5
