After a long day on Twitter here are my thoughts about the #GazaReturnMarch - Hamas cynically picked today as the peak of the demonstrations for one purpose - to restore international involvement in Gaza for the plight of the peoples dire situation.
Hamas in the past tried to gain this attention by launching rockets, attack tunnels and abduction. While those are still on the table, the new strategy is the border confrontations.
Their intention is to regain attention of the international community and solve some of the difficulties they are facing bu putting pressure on the Palestinian Authority, Egypt and Israel.
From Egypt they want Rafah Crossing to be permanently open. From the PA they want the paychecks Abbas has withheld for months causing a serious cash flow problem and from Israel anything that will alleviate the situation from a sea port to more access.
I believe they have been partially successful in bringing the attention to their cause and the dozens killed have drawn condemnation of Israel from the Arab world, Europe and human rights organizations.
So keeping in mind that they never really believed that they were going to “break down the fence and tear out our hearts”, the question remains will Hamas succeed in achieving their goals from this round of violence?
I expect that they will partially be successful, perhaps with the PA, less so with Egypt, and with Israel even more less.
So while the condemnation of Israel continues keep this in mind. What good is Hamas actually doing for the people of Gaza? How can they better serve the people? From Israels perspective: stop channeling millions of dollars to terrorism and start investing in lives of the people.
