#EuropeanParliament is questioning #Zuckerberg about #Facebook. I hope they ask about the following events. ❓👇 Thread on #Russian #oligarchs investments. @WendySiegelman @dcpoll @grantstern @patrickLSimpson @TrickFreee @J_amesp
1. Zuckerberg and Milner are good friends. Zuckerberg attended Milner’s wedding in California late in 2011. They also advise each other on philanthropic ventures. theguardian.com/news/2017/nov/…
2. One of the major investors in Facebook is a Russian company run by two oligarchs close to Putin. In 2009, Digital Sky Technologies (DST Global) was set up by Yuri Milner and Alisher Usmanov.
3. Usmanov used Gazprom money for his Facebook and Twitter investments. Usmanov owns 32% in DST.
4. In May 2009, DST invested $200 million in Facebook.
In June 2009, DST bought back up to $100 million of Facebook employee shares.
In January 2011, DST invested $50 million.
5. In 2012, Gazprom Investholding financed an offshore company to finance Milner’s 8% stake in Facebook.
💥Let’s reinforce: DST received money from Gazprom Investholdings.nytimes.com/2017/11/05/wor…
6. Gazprom Investholdings’s director: Alisher Usmanov. Gazprom Investholdins is a financial subsidiary of Gazprom. Gazprom, Russia’s largest company and the world’s biggest public energy supplier, is owned by the Russian Government (50.23%)
7. Usmanov is the richest oligarch in Russia. His wife was a gymnastics trainer of Putin’s mistress (a gymnast.)
8. (These personal ties and soap opera worthy details are not meant to provide a cheap thrill. It is critical to understand the family-like connections between Putin and his “business” accomplices.)
9. Milner, DST co-owner with Usmanov, once advised the Russian government on technology through a presidential commission chaired by Dmitry Medvedev, the former president and current prime minister.
10. In 2015, Milner contributed $850,000 from his family trust to a $50m investment in Cadre, a tech-savvy real estate investment startup, a New-York-based company that Jared Kushner co-founded in 2014 with his brother, Joshua, and a friend of theirs from Harvard.
11. Kushner initially failed to disclose his own holding in Cadre when he joined Trump’s White House.
12. That and more details, questions and pictures here. medium.com/@ZarinaZabrisk…
