The two last chapters of this great book.
This is our birthright, that we are the conqueror of every challenge, by the Power of the Holy Spirit, with this mission, to fulfill God's calling. Every person in His Kingdom,
after he/she was born again, received callings from God,
according to the Scripture and their's specific calling. Just like Apostle Paul, had been called to be the apostle for the gentiles as his' specific calling. He obeyed it and faithful to it until his last breath.

3. Christ is the model of chastity. Every baptised person is called to lead a chaste life, each according to his particular state of life.

1. Prayer is the intimate conversation of the soul with God, Who dwells within it. But, in order that prayer be really such, it is necessary to “close” the door #God #prayer #Bible
2. to the senses – external and internal – to everything which is created, so as to “enter” in such way into the intimate sanctuary of one’s own heart and there find God alone.

Prayer is, as it were, being alone with God.
3. A soul prays only when it is turned towards God, and for so long as it remains so [irrespective of how many people are around]. As soon as it turns away, it stops praying. The preparation for prayer is thus the movement of turning to God and away from all that is not God.

THREAD: The Chronicler’s Genealogies.

In times of worry and panic, it can be helpful to think about something completely different for a while.

To that end, may I commend to you some thoughts on the genealogies contained in 1 Chronicles 1–9.

#BibleStudy #Chronicles
Biblical genealogies aren’t merely records of history.

They have a purpose, a message, and a theology to convey.

And the genealogies in 1 Chronicles are no exception.
In a future thread, I hope to zoom in on in Benjamin’s genealogy,

which is scattered throughout 1 Chronicles 7–9.

But, here, I’ll share a few thoughts on the big picture of the Chronicler’s genealogies.

THREAD: Daniel 3’s Lists (for @ctyerkes).

SUB-TITLE: God is in the details—a phrase which has recently been corrupted (by a reference to the devil), but badly needs to be reclaimed.

One of the most conspicuous features of Daniel 3’s construction is its preoccupation with lists.
🔹 Personnel are listed (vv. 2, 3, 27), viz., ‘satraps, prefects, governors, counselors, treasurers, justices, magistrates’, and a catch-all category (‘every other ruler in the province’).

🔹 People-groups are listed (vv. 4, 7, 29), viz., ‘tribes, nations, and tongues’.

THREAD: The book of Job has a fundamentally *fractal* structure, which is quite remarkable once you see it (and not without exegetical significance).

Let me try to explain.

The book of Job is built around five fivefold patterns.
These patterns have two main features:

first, they have a sense of oscillation (ABABA),

and, second, they have a sense of climax/progression, which often concludes on a note of surprise.

A nice example is YHWH’s initial dialogue with Satan in 1.6–12:
As can be seen, YHWH’s dialogue with Satan dialogue has both a sense of oscillation (in its speakers: ABABA)

as well as a sense of progression. In line 1, YHWH asks Satan an apparently innocent question. (‘Where have you been?’)

THREAD: The Structure of the Book of Job.

SUB-TITLE: ‘Who is this who decomposes texts without knowledge?’

The book of Job has a sophisticated and tightly integrated structure,

which illuminates many aspects of its plot.

#BibleStudy pays!

Let’s start at the start though.
We’re introduced to the book’s main character with its fifth word: Job.

Job is a man of great piety (1.1) and great prosperity (1.2–3).

As such, Job’s existence poses a question, viz.,

Why is Job such an extraordinary individual?
More specifically, What is the relationship between Job’s piety and prosperity?

Is Job pious because he’s prosperous?

Or is Job prosperous because he’s pious?

(Or might the causal relationship between piety and prosperity not be so simple?)
